Alternate Professional Learning: Call to Action
Interactive Presentation Go & Show a new way learn
Professional learning is entering a promising moment one that encourages us to explore new ways of growing together. Rather than replacing what we have done before, it invites us to expand our possibilities and create opportunities for teachers to experiment, engage in dialogue, and connect ideas with everyday classroom practice. As Duarte (2010) reminds us, shifting between what is and what could be helps us envision new possibilities. Likewise, Gulamhussein’s (2013) principles encourage us to embrace more active, collaborative, and sustained approaches. This call to action invites us to imagine a more dynamic and shared form of professional learning, where small, meaningful experiences build confidence, reflection, and a positive impact on student learning.

Today we stand before a meaningful opportunity to reimagine how we learn and grow as an educational community. Duarte (2010) encourages us to move between what is and what could be, and within that space lies the possibility to enrich our professional learning. This isn’t about replacing theory knowledge remains essential, but about complementing it with experiences that allow us to practice, observe, reflect, and build understanding together. Gulamhussein’s (2013) principles remind us that teacher learning becomes more powerful when it unfolds through sustained cycles, continuous support, authentic modeling, and content that directly aligns with student needs. In this sense, the Go & Show model becomes a pathway toward a more connected, meaningful, and practice-oriented approach to professional growth.
That is why our call to action is both positive and inspiring: take the first step toward a professional learning culture centered on collaboration, practice, and reflection. If we choose to move forward together, we can build a community where learning is not an isolated event but a living process fueled by shared experiences and ongoing exploration. Every peer conversation, every modeled strategy, every attempt to try something new becomes an opportunity to strengthen our practice and expand what is possible for our students. The future we envision for them begins with the learning we cultivate among ourselves today. Now is the moment to move forward with purpose, with hope, and as a community committed to growing together.
